Oh yes, here I am again. I suspect you will be hearing from me more often over the next few weeks leading up to Baby A’s arrival, now that I’m chained to a bed rather than running all over San Luis Obispo county trying to sprinkle the world with wonderful wines.
Yesterday during my non-stress test, I had a long contraction and baby’s heartrate dipped pretty significantly, so my tiny little freedom was stripped and I was put back on the fetal monitor full time. The doctor ordered another ultrasound, and they noticed that my placenta was fairly small and my amniotic fluid was on the low side. They estimate the baby is about 5 lbs right now, which I was happy about. (Based on my size and the size of my belly, I feared that Baby A would be incredibly tiny right now.) Then last night while I was sleeping, I had a few long contractions back to back that caused the fetal heartrate to dip again, so they woke me up, had me use the restroom and change sides, and hooked me back up to the IV. So now I am once again tethered to the bed with tubes and cords. At least there’s been no mention of the catheter, though. And I get to take another shower! (It’s the little things…)
I was most likely going to be released this morning, but after last night they want to keep me for at least another night, possibly two more. They’ve ordered another ultrasound for tomorrow morning, to check the amniotic fluid level. I think they are concerned that some of my fluid leaked during my bleeding episode, but I don’t seem to be leaking anymore as far as I can tell. Since I can’t think of anything that might have caused the tear, they’re a little nervous to send me home that I may have a full abruption and not make it back to the hospital on time… worst case scenario, the baby wouldn’t make it. I’ll say that before he mentioned that, I was pretty annoyed that I was still in the hospital. But now I’m a-okay with hanging out until we’re well out of danger, even if it does suck sitting in a hospital all day.
Update: had another long contraction just now, fetal heartrate dipped, and now the doctor wants to transfer me to another hospital down in San Luis Obispo with a NICU unit. Guess I’m not going home any time soon… Hope they have Wi-Fi at the next hospital…
