So yesterday I was a total ashtanga criminal and practiced full second series with my dusty ol’ David Swenson DVD. Why? Because it was Saturday but I needed to do SOMETHING and I didn’t feel like doing my practice and… well… it sounded like fun.
And it was fun. It was fun practicing in my living room. It was fun feeling that buzz that I always get when I get to about Pincha Mayurasana. For the first time ever, I got myself into Dwi Pada without any assistance and was able to hold it for the full 5 breaths. However, when I lifted out of it, my feet sprung apart and I balanced in a very deep Tittibasana before the exit vinyasa. I gave Karandavasana a few tries, but I just can’t get my legs into lotus on my own. So I came up from the floor. Brought my legs into lotus, put my arms down, and hiked my lotus up my legs until it looked something like this, and then grunted and pushed and pulled and moved them up about 2 centimeters before I collapsed. Holy moly.
Tay came in from his bike ride as I was on headstand #3. He watched as I pulled off the next 4, shook his head, called me crazy, and hit the showers.
But today I’m paying the price for my crimes. Oh, the lower back. The sacrum. The shoulders. Well, the everything really.
Eh, but it was fun. Worth it, even considering the punishment.
