Last night out of nowhere we were struck with one of the biggest electrical storms I’ve seen here on the west coast. I woke up at about 11:30 to the sounds of thunder and watched from my living room as the storm crept north from San Luis Obispo and descended upon the North County. I started timing the lightning… you know, you see the lightning and count mississippis until you hear the thunder? Then I saw this huge flash right outside my window and counted “One… Mi” before I was cut off with the loudest crack of thunder I’ve ever heard which shook the house and rattled the windows.
I thought it was cool, but a little bit scary.
Kula did not agree. She thought it was the scariest thing ever.
Later in the night, when I had given up on sleeping and even given up on watching mother nature’s fireworks show, I flipped on the bedside light to read for a while. Kula kept pacing at the bedroom door, whining so finally I let her out. Five seconds later she came running back in with her toy stuffed bunny in her mouth. She climbed in Taylor’s closet, curled up around the bunny, and sighed a heavy sigh.
