It went pretty well last night, I think. 10 people signed up, which is pretty good for a somewhat tricky time slot. The levels ran the gamet, which threw me for a little loop since the flyer said “for beginners”. I had a few fairly advanced practitioners, and then one or two that had never practiced before, and the rest were somewhere in between. Nerves got to me at first. We sat on our mats and I taught them Ujjayi by whispering “Haaaa” on inhalations and exhalations, then closing the mouth midway through a Haaaa… My Haa’s were audibly a bit shaky, but I smiled through it all.
We went through Surya Namaskara A and B, and they picked it up pretty quickly. I taught standing up through the Prasaritas, then the last three poses of finishing.
Now that I have had a chance to see the level of the students, I can actually plan a little for the following four classes.
I gave everyone a free class card and invited them to my Sunday class, saying “It’s much faster paced, and I wouldn’t expect anyone to get through the whole series with us, but you can observe and partake as you wish so you can really get a feel for the ashtanga practice in its entirety.” I wonder if anyone will come…
I brought Kula to the vet this morning for her surgery. 😦 They’re keeping her over night. It’ll be quiet at our house without her.
