Happy birthday to ME!!!
Those of you who know me know that I make a big fuss out of birthdays. I love birthdays. Especially my own.
I had a special birthday treat this morning when I got to Open Studio. An inspiration from the past. A friend whose practice embodies strength and grace. It was exactly what my practice needed this morning: a kick in the ass. I felt heavy this morning, but that’s probably because this is the first time in a long time I’ve dragged a few extra pounds through full primary. I’ve been lazy. I’ve been hungry. I’ve been busy. The combination of these three leads to overindulgence in the kitchen. Which leads to heavy jump throughs and labored jump backs. But I didn’t really take too much notice. I was so giddy to be practicing next to my inspirational friend.
Now the fog is beginning to burn off, leaving a beautiful sunny day behind. Today’s Thursday, meaning catered lunch day at work (Risotto! Nothing better than arborio rice on your birthday!). I teach English tonight to my adorable students; tonight they learn the present tense, to be, and physical descriptors. Then I rush home for my birthday party! I cooked up a storm last night for the party: Chipotle Black Bean Burgers with cilantro yogurt sauce, pulled pork for pulled pork sandwhiches, orzo pasta salad with tomatos, shallots (local), avocado (local), cilantro (local) and orange jalapeno dressing, herbed green salad with strawberries (local) and almonds (local), and lots of appetizers with yummy dips. Wine for the evening: Baileyana Sauvignon Blanc, Talley Oliver’s Vineyard Chardonnay, Bishop’s Peak Rose’, Talley Estate Pinot, Bishop’s Peak Cab Sauv (all local).
Hooray! I love entertaining! Wish you all could be there!
p.s. I’m still working on my post in response to the article Karen referred me to. Not enough hours in the day, eh?
