Have you ever tried activating one without the other for a sustained period of time? This challenge was brought to light by a friend of mine, so I gave it a go. Tough stuff.
In fact, keeping the belly soft at all during practice has become nearly impossible. Not such a bad thing of course, but I was excited to realize that the bandhas have become something like breathing: an automatic. For so long I had to work on remembering them, and now, I don’t even have to think about them anymore. They’re just there.
Still need to work on sustained soft breath, however. Things get a bit ragged at times, especially during Kapotasana.
