My knees hurt. I’m trying to decide whether or not to make an appointment to see a doctor. Might as well, I suppose. I think it hurts the most just above my patella on the inside. Kind of where the Quadricep attaches to the inside of the knee or something. I can’t tell whether it’s general muscle soreness from Pasasana and Bhekasana or if it’s ligament strain or pain.
I’ve never been good at explaining physical pain. It just hurts.
I think a lot of it has to do with teaching. Just as I’m telling my students to “be very careful” and approach certain poses “with care,” I’m yanking my legs into the same poses to demonstrate without being especially warm or open in the hips. Ironic, no?
For now, I’ll back off in my own practice. The Marichiasanas don’t seem to hurt, but I do feel a pinching sensation in the Ardha Badda Padma poses and the Full Padmasana poses. So, R.I.C.E. and maybe I’ll just see how it feels after a few weeks of modifying and overdoses of arnica. And okay, Jody. I’ll get some Woodlock Oil too.
I’ve decided that my schedule has become too irregular, so I’m regulating it. On Mondays and Thursdays I practice in the afternoon, so I’ve been sleeping in until 6:30 or 7. This makes waking at 5:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings extremely painful and difficult. From now on, even if I’m practicing in the afternoons with Amy, I will still wake at 5:00 on weekdays. This morning was Day One of my new Early Morning Initiative (EMI), and I’ve gotta say, I kind of liked it. I got up, pulled on some pants and a sweatshirt, put the pot on for coffee, and assembled some black bean and corn enchiladas verdes so that tonight I can just pop them in the oven, and VOILA dinner is ready. I have to say, cooking in the morning like that felt completely different than when I cook at dinner time. Around dinner time I’m starting to stress out a bit, things are taking too long, I’m worried about eating too late for an early bedtime… This morning was almost meditative. I even made breakfast for the husband using the extra enchilada filling. Which made me regard myself very highly: I am a DOMESTIC GODDESS. Nigella Lawson, eat your heart out. If only I had the dreamy big brown eyes and the sexy british accent. I think I’ll do this a.m. cooking thing more often (when I’m not practicing). I just have to find more recipes that I can prepare ahead of time and just pop in the oven when dinnertime rolls around. Ideas, anyone? Keep in mind that I rarely prepare the same meal twice, so I need lots of options.
The husband and I took a quick trip up to Paso this weekend to visit the homesite. Progress! It’s so fun to watch this house take shape week by week. You can watch it too, if you want. The newest photos are at the end… So exciting.
Last night we chose our bathroom sink for the little powder room off the kitchen. I love it. It’s so contemporary and functional and just absolutely gorgeous. Who knew I’d get so excited over a sink!
I’ll post a picture later, if I can find one.
